New Year 2017 started as always with Dermot flying out to the Gold Coast to the World famous Magic Millions Yearling Sale. A far greater proportion of big race winners go through the auction ring in Australia than in Europe and so the sale was competitive as ever, with the world’s leading buyers assembled and prepared to spend big to get the lots that could one day be champions.

The lot everyone was talking about needed no introduction; as a full brother to Sebring a colt by More than Ready x Purespeed was a fantastic specimen. Dermot obviously liked him, but so did almost everyone at the sale. In the end Dermot went in with a syndicate that included leading trainer Gai Waterhouse and secured him for AUS$1.3million.Other purchases Dermot made included Lot 229 a well bred filly by Sepoy out of Miss Atom Bomb, the dam is a half sister to Winx and was bought for AUS$300,000.

Lot 315 A filly by Shamus Award out of Pink Siris, who is a full sister to HK Champion Stayer Liberator was bought for AUS$400,000.
